NY Paid Family Leave Webinar Q&A

The anticipated efforts to repeal and replace the ACA through the introduction of House Republican’s “American Health Care Act” failed on March 24, 2017 when the bill was pulled from the floor. In its wake, there have been promises by some to move on to other initiatives, while others maintain the bill is close to resurfacing after some more agreeable modifications. This presentation will provide an update on what changes might still occur in the absence of legislation, and discuss bills which had bipartisan support in the past which could return.

Our featured topic will be centered on the New York Paid Family Leave Program (PFL). Proposed regulations were released in February by both the Workers’ Compensation Board and the Department of Financial Services which provide insight into how final regulations will be shaped. With many deadlines approaching this summer, and the PFL program beginning 1/1/18, it is time for employers to begin considering how this will impact their workforce. This presentation will provide an overview of the proposed regulations, what we know so far and valuable points to consider when creating and implementing your policy. We will review the PFL alongside the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for its interaction with this and other leave programs.
